According to the Prisoners Media Office, the occupation forces raided and inspected the MP’s house on 20 May 2021 before detaining him.

The detention followed a series of threats on the basis of reports that he was planning to run for the Palestinian parliamentary elections, which was decided then cancelled by the Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.

Initially, the MP was held under administrative detention order for four months, later it was extended for another four months.

The MP, the Prisoners Media Office said, had spent a total of 13 years inside the Israeli jails, most of them under administrative detention.
