Israeli regime carries out systematic crime of medical negligence against Palestinian sick detainee

Ramallah (The Inside Palestine)- The administration of Ofer prison is committing a systematic crime against 49-year-old cancer-hit Palestinian detainee Abdul Basit Maatan, Commission of Detainees’ Affair said Tuesday.

The commission pointed out that detainee Maatan suffers from a colon and lymphoma cancer, and underwent a surgical removal of a tumor in 2019, indicating that the detainee is in urgent need to conduct periodical checkups and to follow up on his medication.

It added that the Israel Prison Service evades its responsibilities to provide the necessary medication to the detainee Maatan allegedly for having no evidence indicating that he suffers from cancer despite having sufficient medical reports.

The commission condemned the continued medical violations against over 600 sick Palestinian detainees in Israeli occupation jails, noting that the majority of them needs special care for their very bad health conditions, but the Israel Prison Service pays no attention to them.

According to Palestinian figures, about 4,850 Palestinians, including 34 women and 160 children, are currently languishing in Israeli detention jails.
