Israeli military court sentences heroes of freedom tunnel to five years

Occupied Palestine (The Inside Palestine)- An Israeli court sentenced today five of Gilbou’s six breakers, who decided to free themselves from the high-security prison in September, to five years jail time.

The five detainees — Mahmoud Ardah, Mohammed Ardah, Iham Kamamji, Yaqoub Qadri and Munadil Infaat — were also handed an eight-months probation, as well as a 5000 shekel ($1487) fine.

The sixth Palestinian detainee, Zakaria Zubeidi, who is also the former leader of Al-Aqsa Martyrs’ Brigade and a Fatah activist, is set to receive his conviction later on Sunday.

The Six Palestinian detainees managed to free themselves on September 6 2021, from Gilbou prison, a high-security Israeli prison, through a secret tunnel they had reportedly dug beneath the prison.

Four of the six breakers, Mahmoud Ardah, Mohammed Ardah, Yaqoub Qadri, Zakaria Zubaidi, were rearrested by the Israeli occupation on September 11, after five days of large-scale sweep operations throughout occupied Palestine using high-tech systems and the two others, Infaat and Kamamji, were rearrested on September 19, after 13 days.
