For trying to hug him, Israeli forces assault mother of Palestinian detainee

Occupied Jerusalem (The Inside Palestine) – The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) on Tuesday assaulted the mother of the Palestinian youth detainee Mohammed Abu Ghannam for trying to hug him during his trial hearing.

Local sources reported that the Israeli Central Court in occupied Jerusalem has extended the detention of the 20-year-old detainee Abu Ghannam, a resident of al-Tur town, indicating that he was detained on September 18, 2020.

The sources quoted the mother of the detainee as saying that she couldn’t control herself when she saw her son, adding that the Israeli occupation has been depriving her of giving him a hug for over 17 consecutive months.

The mother indicated that while her son was being led by the Israeli forces during the hallways of the court, she talked to him and tried to hug him spontaneously, pointing out that the Israeli forces pushed and beat her for this simple reason.

She concluded that the Israeli forces also transferred her for interrogation and decided to prevent her from attending the next trial hearings of her son.

According to Palestinian figures, over 4,800 Palestinians, including 34 women and 160 children, are currently languishing in Israeli detention jails.
