EU, UN condemn Israeli demolition of Jordan Valley

Occupied Jerusalem (The Inside Palestine)- The United Nations and European members of the Security Council Friday called on “Israel” to stop the demolition of Bedouin installations in the Jordan Valley, calling for humanitarian aid to reach their gathering in the Homs Al-Baqi area.

The countries of Estonia, France, Ireland, Norway, and the United Kingdom said that it is deeply concerned about the recent demolitions and confiscation of property carried out by “Israel”, which affected facilities funded by the European Union and donors in Hamsa Al-Baqi in the Jordan Valley.

They also expressed concern about the consequences of these decisions on a community of around 70 people, 41 of whom were children.

European diplomats said that we reiterate our call on Israel to end the demolition and confiscation and to allow full, sustainable, and unimpeded access to humanitarian aid to the community of Hamsa Al-Baqi.

In its turn, the United Nations envoy to the Norwegian region, Tor Winsland, expressed his concern to the Security Council about the demolitions and confiscations.

He said that Israel demolished or confiscated 80 buildings in the Palestinian Bedouin community in Hamsa Al-Baqi.

He pointed out that these decisions have repeatedly caused the displacement of 63 people, including 36 children, and come on the heels of similar demolitions that occurred in November.

“I urge Israel to stop the demolition and confiscation of Palestinian property throughout the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, and to allow the Palestinians to develop their communities,” Winsland added.
