Palestinian detainee enters day 70 of hunger strike

Palestinian prisoner Maher al-Akhras have entered day 70 of his open-ended hunger strike in protest at his exposure to unjust administrative detention.

According to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees’ and Ex-Detainees’ Affairs, the health condition of prisoner Akhras has reached a life-threatening stage because of his prolonged hunger strike and his refusal to take any vitamins or fluids.

The Commission affirmed that Akhras would only stop his hunger strike if a decision was taken to release him immediately.

In this regard, the prisoner’s family has appealed for urgent help to save his life before it was too late, affirming that he suffers from serious physical weakness, repeated convulsions and loss of consciousness, and difficulty in recognizing others.
