Barghouthi calls for breaking Gaza siege

Mustafa al-Barghouthi, secretary-general of the Palestinian National Initiative, has called for launching an all-out Palestinian campaign to rally international pressure on the Israeli occupation state to lift its unjust blockade on the Gaza Strip.

In press remarks, Barghouthi called Israel’s persistent siege and repeated attacks on Gaza in the midst of the coronavirus spread as “a major crime against humanity.”

He explained that the health infrastructure in Gaza suffers from severe weakness and a serious shortage of medical and laboratory supplies and ventilators needed by COVID-19 patients.

“It is impossible for the health sector to face the coronavirus pandemic in such conditions where electricity is only available for four hours a day and water supplies are cut off to large areas due to the power outages caused by the Israeli blockade,” Barghouthi added.
