Fears of ‘catastrophic’ Covid outbreak in Gaza after first cases outside quarantine emerge

Gaza (QNN)- The head of the government’s information office in Gaza, Salamah Ma’rouf, has announced on Monday that four Palestinians from the same family, from the Maghazi refugee camp in central Gaza, have tested positive for Covid-19.

In an urgent press conference this night, Ma’rouf added that the government of Gaza decided to impose a complete curfew on the Gaza strip for the next 48 hours starting from this night.

He added that despite the very strict measures that have been taken by the government to protect the people of Gaza from the pandemic, four cases have been confirmed inside the besieged overpopulated strip.

He said that Gaza urgently needs medical supplies and testing kits due to Israel’s prevention of basic medical supplies into the strip. He stressed that the Israeli prevention of fuel supplies would also affect the already difficult conditions in Gaza.

Ma’rouf called on international organizations to intervene and provide medical supplies for the people of Gaza.

In the same vein, the spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, Ashraf Qudrah, said that the first Covid-19 patient is a lady, who lives in Gaza and visited a hospital in occupied Jerusalem.
