London (The Inside Palestine)- Amnesty International has called on ‘Israel’ to immediately halt forced displacement of Palestinians in East Jerusalem’s Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, saying this policy is a pillar of “Israel’s system of apartheid.”
In a tweet, the leading rights group has condemned the Israeli aggression against Palestinians in the neighborhood of Sheikh Jarrah during the past three days, noting that Israeli forces have used “unlawful force to disperse demonstrators.”
“Palestinians in Sheikh Jarrah have been holding demonstrations in response to the imminent threat of forced eviction for the Salem family, which is slated for next month. Israeli security forces have used unlawful force to disperse demonstrators,” the tweet read.
The london-based group also urged the Israeli occupation authorities “to immediately halt forced evictions in the neighbourhood of Sheikh Jarrah and end the ongoing forced displacement of Palestinians from East Jerusalem.”
“Forcible transfer is a war crime and a pillar of Israel’s system of apartheid,” Amnesty International added.

During the past four days, Isaeli settlers and forces have been provoking and attacking residents of Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and supporters, after storming the neighborhood.
Tensions began after far-right Israeli MK Itamar Ben-Gvir announced the reopening of a makeshift office on the lands of the Jerusalemite family of Salem which is facing Israel’s threat of forced displacement of its home. Ben-Gvir opened the office on Sunday, leading to more tensions in the neighborhood.
The settlers and forces violently attacked and beat the Palestinian residents and protesters there, including elderly people, children, activists and journalists.
The forces fired rubber-coated metal bullets, sound bombs and live ammunition to disperse the non-violent protesters, injuring dozens of them.
The settlers also attacked and vandalized the residents’ properties and houses. They set up a tent on the Salem family lands and started provoking the residents. They were backed by well-armed Israeli forces.
Sheikh Jarrah has been cited as one of the most issues that sparked attention and condemnation around the world, as several countries slammed Israeli occupation forces and settlers violence against Palestinians in the Sheikh Jarrah neighbourhood and Israeli forced displacement of families from their homes as dozens of Palestinians are facing imminent forced displacement from their homes, in a move to force them out and replace it entirely with an Israeli settlement.
Last May, the Israeli occupation government tried to forcibly displaced multiple families from the neighbourhood in order to make way for Israeli settlers.
The events had led to widespread protests in the occupied Palestinian territories and a large-scale military operation in the besieged Gaza Strip.
