Against Israel’s administrative detention, Cancer-hit Palestinian detainee starts hunger strike

West Bank(The Inside Palestine)- Cancer-stricken Palestinian detainee Abdel Baset Moatan, from the West Bank town of Burqa east of Ramallah, has begun an open-ended hunger strike.

The Asra Media Office said that Moatan, a 48-year-old father of four, staged the hunger strike to protest at being held in administrative detention without charge or trial and denied access to medical treatment.

The Israeli prison service deliberately procrastinates providing him with the needed treatment for cancer, the Office explained.

Moatan, who has been jailed since 25 October last year, had undergone several surgeries before his arrest.

These surgeries, however, have not curbed the spread of cancer.

He recently started suffering from respiratory problems and chest pains.
