25 Palestinian prisoners tested positive for COVID-19 in Israel’s Negev prison

Occupied Palestine (The Inside Palestine)- Five new cases of COVID-19 were recorded among Palestinian prisoners in Israel’s Negev prison, raising the total number of Palestinian prisoners who contracted the virus inside the prison to 25.

The Palestinian Prisoner Society (PPS) said on Friday in a statement that 25 Palestinian prisoners have tested positive for COVID-19 in the section 25 in Israel’s Negev prison.

The prisoners held in section 25 have been isolated from the rest of the prisoners, said the PPS, adding it has not yet been provided details about the situation of the prisoners.

Located in the Naqab desert, the PPS noted that the Negev prison is one of the largest and most harsh prisons where more than 1200 Palestinian prisoners are held, raising serious concerns as the number is set to rise with the deliberate procrastination by the Israeli administration of prisons in providing the necessary preventive measures inside sections of prison which is the reason behind the spread of the virus.

388 Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails have tested positive with COVID-19 since the start of the pandemic, the PPS said.

According to Palestinian estimates, there are 4600 Palestinians held in Israeli occupation jails, including 34 women, 160 minors, and 500 administrative detainees held without charge or trial.
