Calls for immediate release of Palestinian children and women from israel’s detention facilities over pandemic

Union of Palestinian Women’s Committees on Wednesday called for launching an international campaign to push for the immediate release of Palestinian children and women in Israeli jails due to the coronavirus spread.

The union said in a press statement that 200 children and 43 women are being held in Israeli lock-ups in poor conditions, including mothers and detainees already suffering from different health problems.

Their lives will be at a higher risk if coronavirus enters Israeli prisons, the statement noted, given that the Israel Prison Service does not provide the detainees with the cleaning products needed to maintain minimum hygiene routines.

Palestinian Ministry of Women’s Affairs, General Union of Palestinian Women, Ministry of Prisoners’ Affairs, and several human rights and women’s centers have called for the largest participation in the campaign locally and internationally to save Palestinian children and women in Israeli jails.
