Trump’s proposed map of Palestine has not been welcomed by social media users

Since it was announced, the US president's 'peace plan' has come in for ridicule

US President Donald Trump earlier this week unveiled new details of his long-touted plan to address the Israel-Palestine conflict.

The 181-page document contained conceptual maps showing how Israel and a future Palestinian state could look if Palestinians agreed to sign up to the plan, which was endorsed at the White House by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Since the conceptual map was published many social media users have expressed their discontent with the proposal.

Abu Ashraf Ubaid, from Ramallah, told Arabi 21 that the map resembles the “digestive system and does not express any Palestinian dream, nor does it resemble any natural map of any country”.

Others have stated that Palestine is shown to look more like a cluster of islands with little to no contact with each other.

Translation: The islands of Palestine according to Trump’s vision. What amazes me is that this is the first time I have seen islands on land

Some social media users drew comparisons of the new map to the map of apartheid South Africa.

Another mocked the map for looking more like a golf course.

Thousands across the West Bank, East Jerusalem and Gaza, have denounced the plan for pushing forward a vision largely in sync with Israeli demands.

Meanwhile in neighbouring Jordan, some 3,000 people took to the streets of the capital Amman to denounce the US proposal.

Jared Kushner, Donald Trump’s son-in-law and architect of the US President’s Middle East plan, has called the Palestinians “quite foolish” for immediately rejecting the administration’s so-called “deal of the century”.
