London (The Inside Palestine)- After a year out due to Covid-19, the Big Ride for Palestine is heading for London from Bristol on Thursday, stopping off in Swindon, Oxford and Luton along the way. Around 200 cyclists are expected to finish the ride in Tower Hamlets on Sunday afternoon.
MEMO’s Senior Editor, Ibrahim Hewitt, is planning to be among them. “The ride provides keen cyclists with an opportunity to combine their hobby with raising awareness of the awful human rights abuses endured by the people of occupied Palestine on a daily basis,” he explained.
There is also a fund-rising aspect to the ride. “Since 2015, more than £200,000 has been raised by riders for the Middle East Children’s Alliance (MECA) which provides sports facilities for Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip.”
This will be the fourth Big Ride for Hewitt. His first was in 2018, from Coventry to London, and in pre-Covid 2019 there were two rides, in London and Manchester.
The veteran campaigner will be providing updates for MEMO along the way from Bristol to London.
