Israeli occupation forces (IOF) quelled on Friday a peaceful Palestinian march in eastern Ramallah injuring one of the citizens with rubber bullets while others suffered breathing problems.
The march was launched on the occasion of the 56th anniversary of the Palestinian revolution and rejecting the establishment of a new settlement outpost in the Al-Shorfa mountain area in Deir Jarir village, east of Ramallah.
Ayman Alawi, the head of Deir Jarir Village Council, stated that IOF fired rubber-coated metal bullets and tear gas canisters at the marchers. A civilian was injured with a metal bullet in his head and was taken to Silwad Medical Center. Several civilians suffered breathing difficulty, according to the Palestinian news agency, WAFA.
Hundreds of citizens participated in a protest march called by the Fatah movement, which started in the center of the village and headed towards the lands seized by the Israeli occupation in the Jabal Al-Shorfa area. The participants march was in protest at the occupation’s intention to establish a new settlement outpost on large areas of the village’s lands and in commemoration of the 56th anniversary of the Palestinian revolution and the establishment of Fatah movement.
After the march, the participants held Friday prayer in the Jabal Al-Shorfa area.
Several settlers set up a tent in the area last week, began digging and put a water tank in the place under IOF protection.
This area has been targeted by settlers for years, as they graze their sheep on the village’s crops which causes huge losses to Palestinian farmers.
