Kuwait has voiced its dismay and regret over Israel’s persistence in its aggressive practices against the Palestinian people and its refusal to renounce its annexation plans in the occupied West Bank.
This came in remarks made by Kuwait’s permanent representative to UN Mansour al-Otaibi at a Security Council meeting in New York on Monday evening, according to the official Kuwaiti news agency, KUNA.
“Israel is seeking to perpetuate the occupation by persisting in its illegal activities and policies and in expanding, building and establishing thousands of settlement units and annexing lands,” Otaibi told the Security Council members.
“The recent UN reports have confirmed an increase in the number of settlement activities in the West Bank, including east Jerusalem, after the Israeli government gave the green light for the construction of thousands of new illegal settlement units,” the Kuwaiti diplomat stated.
He stressed that such Israeli “actions contribute to the disappearance of the Palestinians’ opportunity to establish an independent, viable, contiguous and independent Palestinian state.”
He also reiterated the Arab countries’ support for the peace process as a strategic option to resolve the Arab-Israeli conflict and enable the Palestinian people to obtain their legitimate rights fully.
